For those who don’t know, the correct title of “The Guggenheim” is actually “Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum”. Solomon Guggenheim opened his first museum in 1939 entitled “The Museum of Non-Objective Painting”. The Guggenheim was completed twenty years later in 1959.
The Guggenheim hosts a spread of modern art. The walls are covered in impressionist and post-impressionist art. Even the building, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, is somewhat abstract.
The museum is constantly hosting events. Currently they are hosting an event entitled “Contemplating the Void: Interventions in the Guggenheim Museum, which sounds interesting.
The Guggenheim celebrated its fiftieth birthday last year so you know what that means. It will have to get up three times in the middle of the night to use the lavatory. Bah Dum Tsh! But seriously, the longevity of the museum and the art on which it stands is a testament of time and beauty.
