7. MoMA

The Museum of Modern Art, or more commonly referred to as MoMA, is considered to be the world’s most prominent collection of modern art.
MoMA sports a huge collection of works from famous artists including Van Gogh, Picasso, and the illustrious Tim Burton.
The idea for the Museum of Modern Art was initially dreamed up by Abby Rockefeller (yes, that Rockeffeler) and opened just after the stock market crashed in 1929.
Since its humble beginnings, MoMA has become the worldwide standard for modern art museums.  There are an estimated 2.5 million visitors per year, and that number keeps growing.
Many people associate modern art primarily with painting, while that would not be incorrect, there is so much more.  MoMA features architecture, sculpture, drawings, photography, and even film to broaden the spectrum of art.
Location:
11 West 53 Street
New York, NY 10019

Hours of Operation

MoMA has strange hours.  They are generally closed on Tuesdays (unless specified).  You can be safe arriving any other day of the week when it opens its doors at 10:30 and closes at 5:30 PM.  On Fridays MoMA is open until 8:00 PM, and some Thursdays until 8:30 PM.  Be sure to check the official website for more details.
